Non-fasted results
As stated in the instructions, we recommend taking the test after an overnight fast for accurate and comparable results.
Your current results will still provide useful directional insights, but the specific cut-offs and target ranges apply only to fasted samples.
Results taken non-fasted may also be harder to compare with your next test.

Children’s Omega‑3 levels in BalanceTest
Omega‑3 blood levels often differ between adults and children, which means that children’s results need to be interpreted against child‑specific reference ranges. Instead of applying the same targets as for adults, BalanceTest uses a child‑adapted Omega‑3 indexWB* zone centred around ≥6% in whole blood, based on published research on children’s Omega‑3 levels and our own whole‑blood data. This allows children’s results to be viewed in relation to reference levels that better reflect their age and stage of development, without directly equating them to adult targets.
Omega-6 is especially important during brain development and maturation.
A growing child’s brain and nervous system depend on an adequate supply of fatty acids such as Arachidonic acid (AA), which is involved in the growth, repair, maintenance, and protection of neurons. Because of this involvement in growth and development, children have been observed to have a slightly higher percentage of Omega-6 levels in blood than adults. This is demonstrated in contemporary international research and is also reflected in data from Zinzino’s database with over 800.000 blood tests in different age groups (See figure 1).
Figure 1. The average n-6 AA, DGLA, %n-6 in HUFA, and total Omega-6 in children compared to adults. Note! Sample selected based on having the same level Omega-3 indexWB* (>8), thus adjusted for age related dietary differences.
As a result of growth- and maturation-related differences in omega‑3 and omega‑6 status in children, all BalanceTest markers have age‑specific reference levels adapted for children. For example, the omega‑6:3 ratio is typically higher in children (around 5:1) than in adults (around 3:1), even when their diets are similar. Below, you can compare all reference levels for children and adults.
* Measures fatty acids in whole blood (WB), which means all parts of the blood.
